New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is being criticized by Governor Andrew Cuomo for his refusal to have the National Guard deployed to the City. De Blasio said local police have the situation under control, yet soon after his statement the NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association issued a public letter to the NY Police Commissioner saying they do not have the situation under control, and that police officers are being attacked from all sides.
Multiple reports and videos claim that weapons caches and pallets of bricks are being found in hotspots for the riots over the death of George Floyd, raising belief that unnamed groups have been planning and coordinated violence and arson.
The far-left extremist group Antifa will soon be designated a terrorist organization, according to President Donald Trump. Attorney General William Barr declared that the protests now spreading across the United States “are being hijacked by violent radical elements.” He also stated, “The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly.”
